What does Professional Development mean to ASR?
At ASR Media Productions, we believe that professional development is a key part of our success as a team, production quality, and client relationships. We make it a point to continually prioritize professional development, whether it means team-building, leadership training, honing skills, or updating equipment.
We have entrusted Shawn Kent Hayashi at The Professional Development Group (TPDG) to administer our management and leadership training; this partnership has lasted eight years and counting. Most recently, the team completed The 24/7 Leader: Transforming Professional & Personal Life. The training included 12 modules on varying topics, such as covering your teammates’ blind spots, leading without resentment, making decisions, resolving conflicts, and more. This training is beneficial to us as a diverse, creative team, and we find ourselves using the skills every day to better communicate with one another.
Following in Owner & Founder Ashley Russo’s footsteps, Vice President of Production & Operations, Katie Santana, completed personal leadership coaching with TPDG over the course of six months. She honed her established leadership skills and added some new techniques. As part of the training, peers, colleagues, and clients participated in a 360° review of her leadership strengths and blind spots, which allowed her to focus on areas of opportunity. Our team has also held group retreats with TPDG, where we reviewed our assessments, learned about our motivators and communication styles, participated in workshops, and engaged in fun team-building activities.
Our team also loves lunch and learns. They are a perfect way to take a step away from our work for a b, bond as a team, and learn something new. To make these even more unique, we have a team member lead each session so that they can teach the rest of us a skill they have already mastered. Most recently, we’ve completed lunch and learns about graphics and post-production workflow and plan to hold one about color correction in the near future.
Just like soft skills, we prioritize keeping our technical skills and filming equipment as up-to-date as possible. Recently, editors Madison and Dakota tackled a new challenge and learned how to operate the Ronin - a camera stabilizer - which offers even sharper client footage. The two have also taken on new editing responsibilities, with Madison now editing The PEAK TV and Dakota, St. Luke’s HealthNow. Dylan and Ethan continue their training with new, higher-tech cameras and drones.
Professional development helps ensure that our clients receive the best services possible. While we are a company of skilled individuals, being a well-rounded, strong, and efficient team allows us to deliver the highest-quality video and content for our clients. We’re excited to continue future growth initiatives and witness what new heights we can reach together.
