A Masterclass in Client Preparation

Successfully capturing a client’s vision and delivering high-quality video is determined by the professionals they hire. Elements like equipment, years of experience, and proven commitment to quality are all important factors when choosing a video partner. It’s what sets a team apart. But success also relies on YOU, the client. With preparation and communication, filming can be more time-efficient and transparent, resulting in a better end product.

Senior producer, Stephanie Mettler, and senior editor, Abby Mutschler recommend some easy tips clients want to consider to efficiently and effectively create the best end product.

Before Filming: When a client comes to ASR Media seeking video work, there are items we must uncover in order to understand their goals.

  • Paint it done: A clear vision of what the client wants and what the video will be used for.

  • Who is speaking: Interviewee information and a few sentences about them and their role.

  • Hot topics: Specific information the client wants or needs to be included in the video.

  • What are you saying: An approved script, if needed.

  • Timing is everything: Whatever time video participants are on-site, the crew will arrive 30-45 minutes prior for set up.

Film Day: When the day arrives to capture a client's story, here is what to prepare for an easy-breezy day.

  • Quiet on the set: There’s a reason that is a well-known phrase…because filming should take place free of background noise.

  • Preparation, preparation: Locations or interviewees are camera-ready (prepared talking points, rehearsed Q&A, decluttered areas, lights on, everyone is aware of the plan).

  • Extras: Even if not being interviewed, most film days include capturing broll, so ask that all staff be camera-ready, down to their clothes (maybe a day to wear branded shirts or sweaters?).

  • Sweat the details: Any necessary  information about arrival (special directions, building access, security check-in, parking, etc.)

That’s a Wrap!

Editing & Post Production: After pre-production and filming are completed, the editing process begins. ASR Media will need some final pieces to help us create a moving, on-brand video.

  • What’s your style: Branding guidelines, including logos, color palette, or preferred fonts, along with any specific client language.

  • Graphics and on-screen text support what is said: Share organizational data, statistics, names, and proper titles for enhanced communication and accuracy.

If your organization has never worked with a production team and is missing one or more of these components, no need to worry. ASR Media’s skilled production team will assist every step of the way to ensure your video is a success!
