Behind the Lens: Ethan Arner

Meet Ethan Arner, Lead Camera and Editor for ASR Media Productions. Growing up, he spent valuable quality time with his family watching movies. He always remembered well-written films.

Ethan graduated from Northampton Community College with an associate degree in general studies in 2015, but he knew his heart belonged to visual storytelling. He followed his passion and prioritized developing his writing and production skills while earning a bachelor’s in television/film from DeSales University

“I’ve always wanted to be a storyteller -- whether as an author or through a screenplay. As I learned more about the video production industry, I realized my path was leading me towards producing, editing, and videography,” reflected Arner.

During his time at DeSales, Ethan partnered with the #ASRTeam’s very own digital producer, Dakota, to produce her DeSale’s senior thesis “Copyright.” While he had created various short films before, this was his first high-quality video and a piece he continues to be proud of.

After graduating in 2018, Ethan pursued a job behind the camera as a photographer, videographer, and editor. His deep appreciation for editing grew during his two-year position with a real estate marketing firm. He freelanced as an associate producer, camera operator, and editor for a year to expand his storytelling portfolio before joining ASR Media in 2021.

Ethan can get lost in hours of editing and crafting the perfect storyline, but he prefers composing the perfect shot to capture the viewer’s eye. Ethan believes b-roll is one of the most valuable footage to capture. While interview setups typically feel the same, b-roll offers the opportunity to be creative and set the scene with engaging visuals.

While Ethan loves being one of the ASR Media storytellers, he enjoys the unpredictability of sports videography and has a penchant for staying on his toes to capture an incredible shot. If he had a choice, he would always pick moving productions over stationary ones because motion brings life to the shot. You never really know what to expect in the world of video production!
