Behind the Lens: Dylan Sweeney

Dylan Sweeney, lead camera and editor at ASR Media, stumbled into a career in videography from his love for music. He originally had dreams of being a professional musician which evolved into a desire to record music and eventually lead to an interest in recording audio. From there he was introduced to videography and editing which resulted in a Bachelor of Arts degree in Electronic Media from Kutztown University. Quite a path!

Initially, Dylan filmed and edited videos purely for entertainment - music videos, vlogs, and skits. He also supported his real estate agent mother’s business by filming houses she was selling. Eventually, Dylan transitioned from freelance to full-time videographer and editor at ASR Media in 2015.

The choice to evolve from audio to video was a practical one, offering Dylan more work opportunities as a freelance videographer than a sound engineer. He enjoys the creativity that is inherently a part of video production and finds it rewarding to fulfill a project’s vision with just the right footage and edits. He specifically appreciates the fine-tuning that is a part of the editing process. “I enjoy making many small adjusts to a video knowing that those small tweaks will have a larger impact on the end result.”

His very first foray into video was when, as a teenager, he filmed funny skits with his friends. He didn’t truly start working with cameras until college and one of the first short films at Kutztown was a horror film about teeth brushing. Around the same time, Dylan became very interested in vlogging and created many for his personal Youtube channel.

He also fell into the crazy fad of Pokemon Go at its height and his personal work turned in that direction. More recently, Dylan uses his on-camera charisma and vlogging skills to create engaging and fun social media content for ASR Media. When not vlogging, you can find him with a Ronin at an event capturing sweeping views of the room or editing interesting and appealing client stories.

Dylan’s motivation for quality video is rooted in his desire to entertain.

I like making content that people can enjoy and I’ve discovered that video is the best way to accomplish my goal.
